A school in Split since 1992
Jantar began as a school of foreign languages in Split and became an adult education institution in 2010. Today we teach around 1,000 learners a year, run Cambridge English and IELTS exams as the only national exam centre, take part in European projects and train teachers from across Europe.
Why teachers train with us
Our courses are taught in our own school, by people who teach, train and examine here all year. That shows in the sessions: they are built on classroom practice, tried with real learners, and led by trainers who know what a Monday morning with a difficult class feels like.
Most of our courses are small, which leaves room for interaction, peer learning and individual feedback.

Ante Demo
Director of Studies
A Canadian national, Ante came to Croatia to complete his undergraduate and graduate studies in linguistics, and has been at Jantar for over twenty years, most of them as Director of Studies. He is a senior trainer for Cambridge English examinations and the team leader of Cambridge examiners in Croatia, so teacher training and development have long been at the centre of his work.
Iva Meštrović
Course designer
Iva holds a degree in English and Croatian language education and is one of the designers of our courses. She focuses on engaging teaching, adapting methods to learners’ needs, and using technology in the classroom.
Mira Petrović
Teacher trainer
Mira is an expert in the student-centred classroom, task-based and project-based learning. She has helped develop innovative teaching tools and materials, trained teachers across Europe in 21st-century skills and methods, and is a published creative writer.
Josip Sobin
CEO and project coordinator
Josip has coordinated Jantar’s European projects (Erasmus+ KA1 and KA2, ESF) and designed software for the education sector used by schools in Europe, Asia and South America. He teaches our two AI courses, using AI daily to build Jantar’s websites and software and to run its marketing.
Erasmus+ from the inside
We do not only host Erasmus+ participants: we send our own staff and students abroad and build projects with schools across Europe. Jantar holds a KA1 accreditation as consortium coordinator and has been participating in KA1 projects for over a decade. We have also implemented numerous KA2 projects for innovation development, many as coordinator. Our projects have been selected as examples of best practice on European level, with adoption of results across Europe, Asia, Australia and South America.
We have also developed digital placement tests, digital escape rooms for language learning and interactive courses, and, with a 2015 EU grant, a school-management and learning platform now used by more than 40 schools in Europe, Asia and South America.
