Mixed Ability Classroom
Practical ways to teach a class in which every learner starts from a different place.
About the course
Every classroom is a mixed-ability classroom, and every teacher meets the challenges this brings. This course gives you practical techniques, activities and ways of thinking for teaching learners with different levels, speeds, needs and learning profiles in one group.
We look closely at specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and ADHD, at differentiation and scaffolding, and at games and multisensory activities that let every learner take part.
Who it is for
Teachers of any subject and level, special-needs and support staff, and school leaders who want inclusive practice across the school.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- work with more confidence in mixed-ability classrooms
- use a range of classroom management techniques suited to mixed groups
- differentiate tasks and scaffold learning successfully
- understand dyslexia and ADHD and adapt activities for these learners
- use practical games and activities in their own professional context

Four hours of training in class every morning, plus field teaching in Split: 30 hours in all. The detailed timetable follows a few weeks before the course, when the group is final.

What the fee includes
480 EUR per participant

Not included: travel, accommodation and meals. These are usually paid from the travel and individual support in your Erasmus+ grant.

A six-day structured course (30 hours) at Jantar – International House Split, Croatia, on teaching mixed-ability classes. Participants learn to recognise and support learners with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia, ADHD), to differentiate tasks and materials, to scaffold learning and to use multisensory activities and games so that all learners take part. The course combines input, workshops, group work and a personal action plan, and supports the priority of inclusion and diversity.
Practical questions
How long is a course and what are the daily hours?
Every course runs for 6 days, Monday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 13:00 each morning, plus field teaching: 30 hours in all, as stated on the certificate. Afternoons are free for Split. The detailed timetable is sent a few weeks before the course, when the group is final.

What will I receive at the end of the course?
A certificate of attendance stating the number of hours and the topics covered, as Erasmus+ reporting requires. If your organisation uses the Europass Mobility document, we complete the host-organisation part, with the learning outcomes of your course.
